We are seeking a highly motivated researcher for an externally funded EPSRC multi-disciplinary project focused on designing a digital hub for circular food systems in the UK. The project involves collaboration across sustainability, food systems, operations and supply chain management, computer science, environmental and animal science, and environmental statistics.
The successful candidate will work on modeling, analysis, and optimization of circular agri-food supply chains in the UK, aiming to identify data-driven solutions to minimize food waste and utilize surplus effectively, while achieving economic and environmental goals. Expertise in mathematical modeling and optimization, along with a good understanding of supply chain management issues, is required.
The candidate should hold a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline such as management science, operational research, operations management, supply chain management, or related fields. Experience in agri-food supply chains is preferred.
The role is based at Nottingham University Business School, with interactions across various university departments and external partners, including non-academic actors in the UK agri-food supply chain.
We seek a self-driven researcher passionate about sustainability and socio-environmental impact.
Responsibilities
* Engage with actors in the UK apple supply chain to collect data on product flows, surplus, waste, and decision parameters, leading to a value-chain map.
* Apply modeling and optimization techniques to analyze and improve the circular supply chain, balancing economic, environmental, and societal objectives.
* Disseminate research findings to academic and non-academic audiences and incorporate feedback.
* Collaborate with the project team to develop the digital hub and research outputs.
* Publish research reports and articles in peer-reviewed journals.
* Support dissemination efforts to wider audiences.
The role is supported by Professors Anne Touboulic and colleagues at Nottingham and partner universities, with opportunities to develop your research profile.
