This is a really exciting time to join our newly established outpatient pharmacy service 'Newcastle Pharmacy Services'. We provide an outpatient dispensing service to the patients of The Newcastle upon Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking for motivated and dynamic individuals who thrive in a fast paced, energetic and friendly environment who are keen to develop themselves and the service.
Full time 37.5 hours per week working Monday - Friday shifts between 08:30 - 18:00.
Trustwide. Base at Royal Victoria Infirmary but expected to cover shifts at both sites when required.
Annual Leave - 27 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays
Pension: Nest Pension Scheme; 5% employee contribution and 3 % employers contribution
Pay Date: 28th of the month

Main duties of the job
To carry out the full range of Dispensing and Technician duties including the dispensing of prescriptions and orders.
Provide technical support to dispensary services including carrying out routine procedures in the ordering, distribution and storage of pharmaceutical stock.
About us
Our new outpatient pharmacy - Newcastle Pharmacy Services - will operate from 1 December 2024 as a subsidiary of the Trust. This follows an announcement from Lloyds in August 2024, that it was withdrawing from its 64 Lloyds Pharmacy-branded hospital pharmacy sites across the country, including those at the RVI and Freeman Hospitals.
Job responsibilities
* To perform the role of an Accuracy checking Pharmacy Technician undertaking a broad range of technical pharmaceutical activities across dispensary services, including providing advice to patients and other healthcare staff.
* To practice as a registered pharmacy technician.
* To act as an accredited checking technician for the final accuracy checking of dispensed medicines, in addition to performing final release checks on other nondispensed items.
* To support the training and assessment of staff within dispensary services.
* To support robust stock management and minimise waste.
Person Specification
KNOWLEDGE
* Sound knowledge and understanding of pharmacy patient services, supported by practical experience and completion of an approved training programme
* Knowledge and understanding of the Law and Ethics relating to the dispensing of medicines
* Evidence of professional CPD
* Awareness of Trust policies and procedures relating to dispensary services
* Knowledge of current COSHH and Health and Safety Legislation
SKILLS
* Ability to organise own work and work of others
* Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines
* Ability to maintain a high standard of accuracy in a busy environment
* Excellent oral and written communication
* Excellent customer care
* Working knowledge of pharmacy computer systems
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, spreadsheets and databases
QUALIFICATIONS
* Knowledge of pharmaceutical procedures acquired through training, NVQ 3, BTEC or equivalent qualification plus experience to degree equivalent
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* An Accredited Accuracy Checking Qualification
EXPERIENCE
* Significant post qualification experience working in a hospital pharmacy patient services environment
* Experience of working in an automated dispensary including practical experience of day to day maintenance of robotic systems
