North Lakes Children’s Services is a well-established local provider of residential care and education for boys aged -. We aim to improve the resilience, self-esteem, and abilities of all the young people we work with.
As a Support Care Worker, there is a high expectation to be “strong, committed, and passionate” about your role. The young people are at the centre of everything we do—both for and with them. You are a role model, a listening ear, a warm and approachable person, and potentially someone who could inspire and make a significant impact on a young person’s life, their choices, and who they can be! You need to promote, support, and facilitate the creation of “happy memories” and have fun with them to do so.
We are seeking Care Workers to join our teams either in our homes in Carlisle or our one home in Headsnook on a casual basis. Candidates should have a warm and approachable manner and feel they can make a significant impact on a young person’s life, especially in helping them recover from early life experiences.
Main Duties
In each home, we have detailed shift planners/diaries/handover documents outlining specific daily duties and tasks, which vary during term-time (school days) and holiday periods. A summary of some duties during term-time includes:
* Supporting boys' daily routines, including getting them up, promoting personal hygiene, meals, school runs, or activities
* Supporting room cleans, developing life skills, promoting socialization, and supporting bedtime routines
* Attending medical and other appointments
* Supporting activity plans
* Completing day sheets and working with boys on their targets
* Completing all daily paperwork
* Performing daily room checks and house cleaning tasks
* Handling shopping needs, meal preparation, kitchen hygiene, and laundry duties
* Performing specific checks such as COSHH, fire checks, and vehicle checks
* Building and maintaining appropriate relationships with families, noting special dates, and planning family contact
Requirements
All applicants must:
* Be flexible with availability, as the role may involve sleep-in nights and shift work with varied start times
* Have an understanding of issues faced by young people in care
* Hold relevant qualifications (e.g., Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma, Children and Young People's Workforce, NVQ Level in Health & Social Care) or be willing to work towards one
* Have excellent communication and listening skills
* Be willing to learn and work well as part of a team
* Be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check, paid for by us
* Experience with Emotional Behavioral Disorder, social/residential work, or youth work is advantageous
* Possess a full, clean UK driving license and be willing to cover other residential homes as needed
