Freelance Rail Project Manager

We have an exciting freelance opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team on a key rail development in Northumberland.
The Project: This is a critical civils / rail station upgrade project within the thriving Northumberland rail network. You will be instrumental in delivering new and upgraded station infrastructure, contributing to significant improvements in connectivity and economic growth for the region. This project presents unique challenges, including integration with existing rail operations and complex civil engineering elements.
Key Responsibilities: As a Freelance Rail Project Manager, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle delivery of designated civils packages on our station build project. Your duties will include, but not be limited to:

Project Leadership: Leading and motivating a multi:disciplinary team, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.

Planning and Scheduling: Developing, managing, and tracking comprehensive project programmes (e.g., using Primavera P6/Microsoft Project) to ensure timely completion of milestones.
*
Budget Management: Overseeing and controlling project costs, producing accurate financial forecasts, and managing commercial performance.
*
Risk and Opportunity Management: Proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks, as well as identifying and capitalising on opportunities.
*
Stakeholder Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with Network Rail, local authorities, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams. Ensuring effective communication and reporting to all relevant parties.

Contract Management: Managing delivery under NEC contracts, including effective handling of early warnings and compensation events.
*
Health and Safety: Upholding the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to CDM regulations and company procedures.
*
Quality Assurance: Ensuring all works are delivered to the specified quality standards, managing the production and sign:off of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and O and M manuals.

Problem Solving: Developing and implementing effective solutions to technical and logistical challenges that arise during the project.
Essential Skills and Experience:
*
Proven experience as a Project Manager on rail civils infrastructure projects, specifically with experience in station upgrades.
*
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of NEC contract management.
*
Strong understanding of CDM regulations and rail industry safety standards.
*
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
*
Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail and strong planning capabilities.
*
Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
*
Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple work packages concurrently.
*
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site as required.
Desirable (but not essential):

Relevant degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
*
Project Management qualification (e.g., APMP, PRINCE2).
*
Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification.
