: OpCIS Field Engineer Duties and Responsibilities Overview: This role will be responsible for the analysis, execution and support of Operations Communication Information Systems (OpCIS) in a military environment supporting validating exercises. The position will also play a key role in the Mission Rehearsal Exercise (MRX) and Field Rehearsal Exercise (FTX) build and recovery processes. The role is currently located within the military training estate near Thetford, Norfolk with short periods of support required in Warminster, Wiltshire and Nescliffe, Shropshire. The role has approximately 60% - 40% indoor/outdoor split and when OpCIS is live an extended exists 8-8pm with 24/7 onsite call out, including most weekends. Establish and maintain OpCIS digital communication infrastructure, including wireless or LAN networks within a military environment. Establishing and maintaining digital communication software, including email, user logins and passwords; this includes setting up new accounts on a Mission Specific Training (MST) LAN, email accounts providing military personnel with access to the MST network, as well as troubleshooting for existing military subscriber network accounts. Deliver briefings to a military audience (30 staff) giving orientation and minor training on the specific training LAN. Making sure that the networks are protected from malware and viruses, identifying areas that might be under threat and areas where security can be improved, keeping up to date on ever-changing cyber-threats Provide technical support and assistance to military personnel. Perform analysis and collect data to establish the potential for improvements within the communication networks. Work with third-party contractors. Education and Experience Required: 8 years of professional experience, preferably with a degree in Computer Science or equivalent. Without a degree, three additional years of relevant professional experience (11 years in total). Knowledge and Skills: Serving as the first point of contact for IT support within the OpCIS environment. Installing, configuring and maintaining software and hardware components of computer and network systems. Diagnosing and troubleshooting software and hardware issues. Repairing and replacing damaged computer and network components. Ensuring the security of client and server computers by installing and upgrading antivirus and firewall software. Supporting the training audience whenever they encounter challenges with computers and network devices. Maintaining and updating technical documentation regularly. Testing new hardware and software before full-scale installation. Has sufficient depth and breadth of technical knowledge to design and scope multiple deliverables across a number of technologies. Ability to develop solutions that enhance the availability, performance, maintainability and agility of a network infrastructure. Possesses an understanding, at a detailed level, of architectural dependencies of technologies in use in the customer's IT environment. Frequently uses product and application knowledge along with internals or architectural knowledge to develop solutions. A recognised expert in one or more technologies within own technical community. Holds a vendor or industry certification in at least one discipline area. Able to communicate with internal and external senior management confidently and demonstrate the professionalism of the job family. Ability to work in a multi- technology environment with the ability to diagnose complex technical problems to their root cause. In addition to troubleshooting skills and consulting skills, has ability to summarise prognosis and impact at practice lead level. Ability to adapt a consulting style appropriate to the situation. Demonstrates broad knowledge in other technical areas. Strong communication skills and being confident to promote themselves and the service they are delivering to all levels.
