Electrical and Mechanical Technician
We have an exciting opportunity for a career‑minded person to join our Mill Green (Hatfield) team as an Electrical and Mechanical Technician, focused mainly on electrical maintenance on our sewage pumping stations in the Hertfordshire area.
Location and Hours
Base Location – Mill Green (Hatfield), AL9 5PE. Working hours – 38 hours per week, Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am‑3:36 pm, plus inclusion in a 1‑week in every 6‑weeks out‑of‑hours emergency standby rota, for which additional payments are provided.
Responsibilities
* Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process, including diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
* Install, modify, and commission new plant equipment and diagnose and repair faults in systems and plants.
* Provide technical advice, refer to up‑to‑date technical knowledge, and offer training or support to technical trainees if required.
* Work on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, screw/chain conveyors, centrifuges, various pumps, control gear, 3‑phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
* Always work safely and comply with all health and safety guidance and procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
You should be a time‑served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or hold NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical/electrical engineering.
* Problem‑solving ability, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions or escalations when required.
* Excellent communication skills, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors.
* Resilient, adaptable to work pressures and a constantly changing environment.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision, under own initiative, to design and meet standards.
* Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry.
* Team player who can work across many different teams, showing respect for others and supporting the development of colleagues.
* IT literate.
* Full UK driving licence.
