Mash Direct has a new opportunity within the core Management Team. Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Company is seeking to recruit for an experienced: Night Shift Manager: Food Production (5pm-3am, Monday - Friday with flexibility to cover weekends at peak production periods) Job Purpose To manage night-shift production of product, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production while meeting nightly targets, food safety standards, and operational KPIs. Key Responsibilities Production Management Lead night-shift production teams across mash, veg prep, cooking and packing. Ensure production meets required volume, quality, and timeline targets. Monitor and adjust workflow, line speeds, and staffing to optimise efficiency. Complete shift handovers and maintain accurate production records Food Safety & Compliance Ensure all operations comply with HACCP, BRCGS, and company food safety procedures. Conduct regular hygiene and allergen-control checks. Ensure correct handling, cooling, cooking, and temperature recording for all products. Investigate food-safety deviations and implement corrective actions People Leadership Manage a team of supervisors, operatives and forklift/drivers. Conduct briefings, toolbox talks and ensure staff across a multi lingual environment are trained and competent. Manage rotas, breaks, and absence. Promote a positive culture focused on teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement Health & Safety Enforce compliance with all H&S procedures, including PPE use and safe operating practices. Carry out near-miss reporting and drive safety improvements. Lead emergency response actions during the night shift. Quality Assurance Work with QA to resolve quality issues and any contamination risks. Ensure correct mixing of ingredients, labelling, and traceability for mash and vegetable products. Support internal and external audits as required. Maintenance & Equipment Oversight Monitor machinery performance (peelers, mixers, chillers, sealing lines). Coordinate with engineering for reactive and preventative maintenance. Reduce downtime through proactive troubleshooting. Reporting & KPIs Deliver performance results for safety, quality, waste and output. Prepare shift reports, incident reports, and handovers to day management. Identify improvement opportunities to reduce waste and enhance efficiency. Key Skills & Competencies Essential Management experience in food manufacturing (preferably veg, chilled, ready-meal production). Strong understanding of HACCP, CCPs, GMP, allergen control, and traceability. Ability to lead teams under time pressure. Solid problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills. Competent with production systems, documentation, and shift reporting. Desirable Experience with BRCGS accredited environments. Food safety qualification (Level 3 or 4).
