With four main sites across Scotland, the organisation welcomes millions of visitors each year across its family of museums and is committed to preserving, interpreting and sharing Scotland’s National Collection for public benefit, education, and inspiration. The development of a project to renew the Scotland Galleries represents the next major chapter in the organisation’s journey and has the potential to be a catalyst, to take the real things in the Collection and reveal a broader and deeper range of stories so that more and different people will feel inspired, connected, and represented.
Reporting to the Director of National Museums Scotland, the Strategic Lead will drive the development of a renewal programme for the Scotland Galleries. The postholder will lead the development of a compelling, audience-focused and fundable vision for the galleries, with clear collection, community and commercial objectives. They will bring coherence, momentum and clarity to a complex programme of stakeholder engagement, governance, and planning.
The successful candidate will bring a strong track record of strategic leadership in delivering complex cultural or transformation projects, including business case development, audience consultation, and funding viability, and the credibility, communication skills, and collaborative approach required to operate confidently at executive and board level and with external partners.
