COMMUNITY CONSULTANT PAEDIATRICIAN

NAMED DOCTOR FOR LOOKED AFTER CHILDREN & MEDICAL ADVISOR FOR ADOPTION

This post is for a Consultant Paediatrician position in the community, within the Barking and Dagenham Specialist Children Service, based at the Child and Family Health Centre, 79 Axe Street, Barking, IG11 7L.

This is a newly created post, following investment by the place-based ICB to support increased demand on Community Paediatric services. Significant transformation has already occurred and continues in Barking and Dagenham's community services for babies, children, and young people. The post is currently vacant, and we aim to recruit substantively as soon as possible.

This is a new, full-time, substantive post with 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), including 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact activities (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).

There is no night on-call requirement; however, the post holder will participate in a daytime on-call rota from 9am to 5pm for child protection medical examinations.

The successful candidate will join a fully integrated multidisciplinary specialist team providing care to children and young people with health needs across Barking & Dagenham. They will also become part of a large (30+ community paediatricians), dynamic team serving North East London Foundation Trust.

The role involves providing senior medical support, clinical case oversight, guidance, and supervision to the team. The post holder will work directly with children, young people, and families, and liaise with external health providers and hospitals.

Opportunities exist to develop links with local acute trusts, including close collaboration with paediatric departments at King George Hospital, Queens Hospital, and tertiary colleagues at the Royal London and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

3. Adhere to Trust protocols and procedures.
4. Maintain accurate records for audit purposes.

This advert closes on Monday, 20 October 2025.
