The Team & Focus of the Role
We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Training Designer to come and join our team, based in Ashby de la Zouch or Birmingham. This role will be pivotal in designing and developing high quality, business specific learning solutions for the launch of our Fisher German Academy, initially focusing on our Infrastructure Services division.
Reporting into the Head of Performance & Organisational Development (P&OD), you will work closely with our Head of Learning and the wider team to learn, share ideas, and be part of our overall business delivery plans. The role will partner closely with subject matter experts to translate technical expertise, market knowledge and soft skill requirements into practical, engaging and efficient learning programmes.
You will be highly motivated, have experience in designing training programmes (both in-person and e-learning), and have excellent stakeholder management skills, working across key business areas to help shape the content of the learning.
If you have experience in delivering training in addition to training design, we’d still love to hear from you! Once the training has been designed to align to Academy objectives, we will be in a position to launch our inaugural Fisher German Academy, which you could be a part of.
Based in Ashby de la Zouch or Birmingham, this role is full-time (Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours) and offered as a 12-month fixed term contract. If the successful candidate has a preference to work in Birmingham, we would anticipate that one day per week would be spent in Ashby de la Zouch which is where our P&OD team are based. We also operate a hybrid working policy.

Duties will include:
* Partner with business leaders, technical experts and the wider P&OD team to identify requirements and learning objectives for the chosen business area
* Conduct Learning Needs Analysis
* Translate complex technical and professional knowledge into structured, learner friendly training
* Design blended learning solutions (classroom, virtual, elearning etc.)
* Create learning paths and programmes aligned to specific roles and career stages
* Develop course materials including facilitator guides, eLearning content, learner materials etc.
* Ensure alignment with company values and business objectives
* Pilot training materials with SMEs and test groups
* Manage content quality and consistency within the Academy structure
* Develop evaluation methods to assess learning impact
* Gather feedback and measure learning transfer into performance
* Recommend ongoing improvements to learning content and delivery methods
* Build strong working relationships with SMEs and internal stakeholders
* Work collaboratively with the P&OD team to ensure training materials are aligned and consistent
The successful candidate will have...
* Proven experience in learning / instructional design
* Experience in conducting learning needs analysis
* Strong stakeholder engagement
* Excellent writing and content creation skills – able to make potentially complex topics simple and engaging
* Experience in designing soft skills, technical and digital training
* Familiarity with learning technologies such as LMS platforms, eLearning, Adobe Captivate etc.
* Strong project management and organisational skills
* Experience in training delivery (desirable)
* 3+ years’ experience in learning design, instructional design or a similar role.
* Experience working with SMEs / stakeholders to design bespoke training content
* Experience in designing blended learning solutions
