Role Type: Trustee Application deadline: Thursday, January 15, 2026 - 16:29 Salary: £ Location: Northumberland Role description: Board Member Gap Supported Housing is a Hexham based charity supporting vulnerable adults who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. We provide fully staffed, short-term supported accommodation for up to 13 individuals. We offer the opportunity for individuals to explore and address the issues that led, or contributed to, their homelessness, with our services focusing on building confidence and self-esteem, developing practical living skills, and supporting individuals through their transition to long-term housing solutions. Support is person-centred and holistic, recognising that homelessness can happen to anyone and that recovery looks different for everyone. We are looking for new trustees to strengthen our existing board. We are looking for new trustees to strengthen our existing board. Trustees play a key role in safeguarding our charity’s mission and supporting its continued development as a responsive, compassionate and community-rooted organisation. This is a rewarding role for people who want to make a real difference in their community. You'll be part of a friendly and committed board, working alongside our CEO and your fellow Board members to create meaningful change. Our Trustees are asked to prepare for and attend a minimum six board meeting a year as well as providing the skills and insight needed to ensure we meet all the requirements of a professional, high quality and effectively run organisation. We are keen to hear from people who are able to bring different lived experiences, knowledge and idea, who can work constructively and enthusiastically to help us through the changing and challenging external environment we find ourselves operating in. Trustees Contribute By Attending bi-monthly board meetings (in person or online) Offering strategic oversight and advice Championing our cause in the community Supporting specific areas such as, for example, finance, fundraising or HR We aim to make the role as accessible and flexible as possible. Meetings can be hybrid (online and in-person), and we offer a full induction, ongoing guidance, and opportunities to get to know the team and services first-hand. By giving your time as a trustee, you’ll not only be helping to shape services that transform lives — you’ll also gain valuable experience in governance, leadership and strategic thinking. Trusteeship offers a chance to develop new skills, expand your network, and contribute to a cause that truly matters. We are registered with both the Charity Commission and Companies House as a Company Limited by Guarantee so members of the Board are both trustees and company directors. Board members are required to complete a DBS check as well as familiarise themselves with our safeguarding and other policies.
