We’re looking to recruit a Strategy and Performance Assistant to strengthen our Corporate Strategy and Performance team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the largest new unitary authority in England, helping to shape strategy, improve performance, and support strong partnership working that delivers better outcomes for our communities.
You will support strategic planning, policy development and performance management across the council, working closely with services, partners and senior leaders. The role offers varied work, exposure to high‑profile initiatives, and excellent development opportunities.
Working in a newly formed small team your main duties will be to:
* Supporting the development, monitoring and review of council, directorate and multi‑agency strategies, policies and action plans
* Assisting with performance management activity, including frameworks, indicators, reporting and challenge
* Carrying out research, horizon scanning and analysis of policy developments and emerging issues
* Collating, analysing and presenting performance data and intelligence for senior managers, members and partners
* Supporting and contributing to partnership working, including governance, delivery monitoring and secretariat support
* Preparing reports, briefings and presentations for a range of audiences
* Working flexibly across directorates and corporate priorities as part of a matrix‑managed team
The successful candidate must have:
* Political awareness, with a strong understanding of public policy and the wider local government landscape
* Confidence working with data, with strong analytical skills and a clear understanding of the importance of performance information
* Ability to communicate complex information clearly
* Experience of research, data analysis, performance or policy work (depending on focus)
* Good organisational skills and the ability to work across multiple priorities
* An understanding of how evidence, data and policy inform strategy and improvement
* A tenacious attitude, determined to add value to services across the council.
