Why this role matters
Network Strategy sits within Research and Network Strategy (RaNS) part of Networks. We are part of the “commercial conscience” of Networks. We help determine what technologies will be required in the future to deliver the CFUs plans for great future products and services for our customers. We are key to the planning of the roadmap for all the BT Networks. We help shape the envelope of CAPEX for investment in our networks, whether that be 5G, Wi-fi or ultra fast fixed technologies.
Can you help forecast the future?
As an integral part of the demand forecasting team, you will help deliver robust demand forecasts for the short term and long-term views of the business (up to 20 years). The focus in on consolidating mobile plans from across the CFUs and Networks, enabling BT to plan the network, working with stakeholders to support making sure deployment is ideal in terms of capacity & cost, in the short/ medium term. For the longer view, we assess the risks / opportunities and scenarios BT needs to consider for 5years +, across a range of use cases in both fixed and mobile.
The forecasts support a range of commercial decisions in the business – from working with designers on the network for product impacts, to seeing the impact of tariff changes, new MVNO launches, or new radio access technology changes.
You'll have the following responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
Forecasting:
• Producing robust and timely Customer Demand Forecasts (CDF) for use by Networks and Group. This will reflect all mobile users and services (e.g. Data and Voice at a product / segment level) on the BT/EE Mobile network. This will reflect internal and market insight. This impacts both capacity planning on the network (through the linked Technical Demand forecast) and techno-economic work with Group and the CFUs
• Produce, develop and maintain complex models of network demand, continually improving forecasting techniques to adapt to evolving business needs
• Modelling of future use cases of services across fixed and mobile
Stakeholder Engagement:
• Manage stakeholder input across the Consumer and Business. This includes Finance, Marketing, Insight, Products, Propositions, Network Strategy and Project Managers
Strategic Support:
• Ad hoc support for Strategic questions from senior stakeholders, which can be wide ranging in scope from across the end-to-end views of the customer on the network
• Insight on customer and network to justify assumptions in the forecast, and to support requests from across the business (Group, Finance, Networks, CFUs)
You'll have the following skills and experience

• Good communication skills (written and oral) to be able to bring out insight with clarity.

• Ability to drive a philosophy of continuous improvement and agile working approach to respond to changing requirements
Experience you would be expected to have:
MANDATORY
• You will be able to use and develop forecasting models using a variety of tools (e.g. complex Excel spreadsheets, object-based model, databases and analysis tools)
• Strong proficiency in Excel and Python/SQL
• You can work with large, varying quality, data sources and the ability to improve MI
• Producing high quality, easy to share outputs / insight
• Working effectively with widespread and remote virtual teams across the whole business
• Continual learning mindset to be able to adapt to new tools and new technology developments
PREFERRED
• Good working knowledge of the mobile industry - both commercial and technical
• Experience with other tools for exploratory data analysis, visualisation and model development (e.g. Jupyter notebooks, R, cloud platforms such as GCP, or AWS, Power BI)
• You will have experience of developing, implementing and improving cross-functional business processes.
• Experience in navigating complex stakeholder environments and aligning diverse inputs into coherent forecasting models.
• Ability to manage and prioritise own and others workload, to ensure delivery of long- and short- term objectives.
• Good communicator (written and oral), able to communicate at all knowledge levels, able to simplify and explain technical topics in easily understood form
• Strong organisational awareness of internal process, delivery organisation and key stakeholders
