Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Performing Arts Music Technician.
Reporting to: Performing Arts Admin Supervisor
Main purpose of the role: As part of the Performing Arts department, the Performing Arts Music Technician will provide day-to-day support for the music department and users of the Sarah Abraham Recital Hall.
The technician will support daily operations for lessons, performances, and events, and assist the wider Performing Arts team, especially in delivering audio and video editing services under the direction of the Theatre Operations Manager.
General Duties And Responsibilities
1. Coordinate and manage daily ensemble set-ups and take-downs of orchestras, bands, choirs, and chamber ensembles across Brighton College for 35 weekly rehearsals in the SARH, Hordern Room, and other venues.
2. Support requests for musical instruments across the College sites.
3. Stage manage and provide logistical and technical support for music events throughout the year.
4. Lead in recording and editing audio and visual content for the school.
5. Act as the in-house technician for the Sarah Abraham Recital Hall, setting up and striking equipment for non-music events.
6. Maintain an updated inventory of technical and musical equipment, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
7. Repair, maintain, and tune guitars and drum kits as needed.
8. Repair and maintain leads, microphones, and power packs for stage pianos, amps, and guitars.
9. Oversee the recording suite within the SARH.
10. Provide overall technological support for the Music Department.
11. Assist in managing, maintaining, and operating classroom instruments and technical equipment across the College.
12. Support the smooth running of performances, assemblies, live events, Open Mornings, Options Evenings, and taster events.
13. Adhere to health and safety requirements when handling technical and Performing Arts equipment.
14. Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in contact with you.
15. Perform any other reasonable management requests.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will have experience in:
* Technical work in a music or theatrical environment.
* Proficient use of Logic.
* Knowledge of recording equipment, video, microphones, recording techniques, and enthusiasm for producing high-quality recordings.
* Experience with AV equipment and video/audio editing software.
* Understanding of maintenance needs of music equipment.
* Ability to work independently and responsibly, proactively seeking solutions.
* Ability to remain calm under pressure, organize time effectively, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
* Ability to move instruments and music around the College independently.
* Ability to plan ahead and draw up schedules for review and follow-up.
* Attention to detail and accuracy.
* Flexibility in work approach.
Hours of Work
This role is based on annualized hours, with a set number of hours per year, equivalent to 40 hours per week over 35 weeks, from January to December. Weekly hours will be agreed upon with the line manager via a rostering system. The role may require working evenings and weekends to support College events.
