Position Overview
You will assess, diagnose, devise, implement and evaluate a treatment plan for a variety of patients with a wide range of complex clinical needs including:
* Diabetes and vascular disease
* Rheumatology
* Biomechanical conditions
* Acute and chronic wound management
Responsibilities
* Identify when patients require the intervention of another professional and/or advanced podiatrist.
* Provide education and self‑management advice to patients and/or their relatives and carers, including signposting to non‑NHS providers of foot care.
* Carry out simple biomechanical assessment in general podiatry clinics, which will include prescription and fitting of simple chair‑side orthoses, advice on exercise and stretching programmes, footwear advice.
* Carry out simple diabetic foot assessments providing appropriate advice.
* Carry out nail surgery.
* Be responsible for ordering, maintenance, and security of stock.
* Maintain clinical records to a professional standard in SystmOne, ensuring all activities are recorded in a timely fashion.
* Have the capability to safely handle patients who may be immobile, wheelchair or bed‑bound often in confined spaces.
* Under supervision initially, sharp debride diabetic foot ulcers, providing complex wound care, applying appropriate dressings and off‑loading.
* Be flexible and provide cover for other podiatrists at short notice or during periods of absence, which may be at any site.
This post will suit a newly or recently qualified podiatrist or one who already has experience, who is enthusiastic, motivated, and ready to join our friendly team.
Professional Development
You will have the opportunity to develop your post‑graduate skills and to build on your current skills. A competency programme will be followed during a one‑year preceptorship period, along with a full induction programme and regular supervision sessions. Our aim is that you will become one of our band 6 podiatrists. You will provide care within health centres, community hospitals, patients' homes, and care homes, and may also experience work within the acute hospital setting on wards and in the MDT diabetic foot clinic.
