We are looking for a Health and Safety Advisor to support Kitchen Managers, Leaders, and Team Members in ensuring that H&S policies and procedures are adhered to across the site through regular monitoring, inspection, and audits. To provide Safety and Environment Manager and the Kitchen teams with practical support in relation to improving safety and health practices (and compliance) via reporting and feedback that develops engagement and ownership. Key accountabilities Organization: • To review, evaluate and improve Bigham's H&S policies and procedures, ensuring that they are reasonable and practicable and meet legislative requirements, ACOPs and industry standards and practices • To support the auditing of the Bigham's Safety Management System ensuring that the company has a robust and compliant approach to all H&S matters, with safe systems and processes in operation in accordance with risk control hierarchy Quarry Kitchen: • To ensure that H&S policies are adhered to across the site through regular monitoring, auditing, and inspection methods • To support the process of risk assessment across the site and to advise and assist leaders and managers with their risk assessment responsibilities • Maintain a central register of risk assessments and ensure regular review of Health and Safety Management System as required • To support the delivery of appropriate Health and Safety training for all teams as required to meet the Company’s legal obligations • To support and coordinate specialist external training as determined and required • To maintain and regularly audit H&S training records and ensure that training is renewed as appropriate • To assist with investigations and recording of incidents, accidents and near-misses reporting and escalating as appropriate eg RIDDOR • To support the development of H&S initiatives by Team Members, Leaders, and Managers • To provide H&S advice and guidance to colleagues, contractors, and visitors • To assist Safety and Environment Manager with administrative tasks and ad hoc projects/events • To attend Health & Safety Committee meetings and daily SIC meetings • To assist Safety and Environment Manager in collecting and review relevant information to identify problems with the occupational health arrangements Main Responsibilities Key responsibilities Safety Management System • Maintain documentation, systems, and procedures to support ensuring the management system is fit for purpose and up to date • Support the formal auditing of the HSMS for Quarry and London kitchens to produce gap analysis and action planning for compliance and continuous improvement of safety practices as required by Safety and Environment Manager. Behavioural Safety and Engagement • Providing support, advice, and reporting to allow teams to develop improved safety practices • Assist the teams with developing local responsibilities for their own safe working practices • Foster sharing of good practices across teams, shifts, departments, and kitchens Monitoring, Reporting and Administration 1. Maintenance of Risk Assessment register 2. Maintenance and improvement of Bigham's HSMS 3. Near Miss, Hazards, Incidents and Accidents reporting including evaluation / analysis to allow action planning for prevention and intervention The Ideal Candidate Experience • Teamworking and engagement within a manufacturing environment • Delivering training preferably in safety • Administration duties in support role where planning and organising is required • Auditing of documentation, procedures, processes, and systems • Understanding of H&S issues including risk management Skills / Qualifications • National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety/NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety • MS Excel user level at Intermediate Level • Intermediate user of MS PowerPoint, able to develop and deliver effective presentations • Confident and effective communicator • Good interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships • Organiser with attention to detail • Analytical and logical – able to problem solve • Inquisitive and interested in ‘what is really going on’ Attributes • Enjoys helping people and developing a team atmosphere • Positive approach and personable • Self-motivated – able to set and manage priorities • Calm, logical thinker • Enjoys working in a supporting role and being part of a wider operations team
