Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our acute stroke unit at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at Kings Mill Hospital in Mansfield. The unit consists of hyper-acute, acute and rehab beds with a strong MDT focus.
You will be joining an innovative, research-focused team with a strong emphasis on staff wellbeing and development.
This is a permanent full-time post, 37.5 hours per week. The role requires covering 7-day working and bank holidays on a rota basis.
We welcome applications from band 5 SLTs aiming to progress to band 6, or from current band 6 SLTs seeking a change in clinical focus.
Main duties of the job
The role involves:
1. Assessment and management of patients with stroke-related communication and/or eating and drinking difficulties
2. Independent caseload management
3. Holistic assessment and patient-led goal setting
4. Providing evidence-based therapy
5. MDT working/joint assessments as needed
6. Facilitating medical capacity assessments
7. Supervising students and junior staff
8. Leading service development projects
9. Prioritising patients according to clinical capacity
10. Making referrals to other services, e.g., community SLT
11. Collaborating closely with the community stroke team
