Description Do you want to support existing and assist in delivering next generation network connectivity which enables safeguarding operations for protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults ? Disclosure Scotland is undergoing a digital transformation to continuous improvement of user-centred services that safeguard vulnerable people. This critical public service is being transformed, offering a rare opportunity to help shape how government delivers it. To support this, we’re changing our internal operating model to multi-functional teams working in an agile and collaborative way to deliver and improve our services. We need innovative, resilient, and enabling technology to support our business strategy and future needs through effective IT delivery. Our new services are hosted in AWS, backed by a fully automated infrastructure platform. As an Associate Infrastructure Engineer you will sit within the Security Team of the Digital & Service Delivery Department. This team is responsible for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and information systems used by the Scottish Government and our Partners Across Government (PAG). As an Associate Infrastructure Engineer you will contribute directly to this mission, helping to safeguard critical systems and data across government and PAG. Responsibilities Provisions/installs, configures and maintains infrastructure services and components. Monitors, measures and reports on infrastructure load, performance and security events. Identifies operational issues and contributes to their resolution. Carries out agreed operational procedures, including backup/restore, using supplied infrastructure tools and scripts. Carries out agreed system software maintenance tasks. Automates routine system administration tasks to specifications using standard tools and basic scripting. Explain information security and the security controls available to protect solutions and services. Support infrastructure solutions and services, and other computer, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software, and open source packages and solutions. Support virtual and cloud computing, including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). Explain the importance of using modern development standards. Show an awareness of problem resolution processes and pass problems on to your team. Investigate problems in systems, processes, and services, with an understanding of the level of a problem, for example, strategic, tactical, or operational. Contribute to the implementation of remedies and preventative measures. Assist as part of a team in the design of components of larger systems. Explain the process and principles of integrating systems. Describe challenges of designing, building, and testing interfaces between systems. Show an awareness of the relevant subject matter and a high-level understanding of what it involves. Show an awareness of different technology capabilities. Demonstrate basic troubleshooting capability. Responsibilities Success Profile Success profiles are specific to each job and they include the mix of skills, experience and behaviours candidates will be assessed on. Experience: 1. The ability to work with limited supervision once any necessary training has been provided, displaying good judgement, strong planning and organisational skills. 2. Evidence of clearly explaining issues and requirements, so that they are understood by both technical and non-technical staff and stakeholders. 3. Experience of working with a diverse group of stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet their outcomes. 4. The ability to apply technical knowledge and skills to monitor, identify, investigate, analyse, document and resolve requests in a timely fashion. 5. A broad understanding of Information Systems, and or networking technologies with relevant experience and training. 6. A demonstrable understanding or awareness of best practices around backups and/or disaster recovery, including when to take or restore a backup. Experience is assessed at sift, along with a more in-depth assessment at interview. DDaT Pay Supplement This post is part of the Scottish Government Digital, Data and Technology (DDAT) profession, as a member of the profession you will join the professional development system. This post currently attracts a £5,000.00 annual DDAT pay supplement, applicable after a 3-month competency qualifying period. The payment will be backdated to your start date in the role. Pay supplements are reviewed regularly and there is one currently underway. Changes will be communicated when the review is concluded.
