We are currently seeking one Consultant to work 7.75 programmed activities (PAs) per week.
The Acute Medicine service is a core component of the Trust’s Medicine Division, delivering high-quality care to a wide range of acutely unwell patients across the Acute Assessment Units and the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Wigan.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will support the delivery of high-quality acute care across the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. Responsibilities include:
1. Providing high quality consultant-delivered care to patients
2. Ensuring patient safety, dignity and care are given the highest priority
3. Being proactive in ensuring that patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making
4. Undertaking clinical leadership and supervision, teaching and training of junior medical staff
5. Liaising with clinicians and managers to address any issues arising that may affect the services
6. Contributing to the ongoing development of the acute medicine services at WWL
7. There may be opportunities to pursue an area of specialist interest, eg developing new services or pathways

On-Call
Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful applicant will join colleagues to continue the exciting developments improving the delivery of care to these acutely unwell medical patients. Specialist interest will be accommodated eg. Respiratory, Cardiology, or Diabetes clinics, teaching and education sessions at Edge Hill University can also be considered.

9. Ability to work in flexible manner
10. Must show commitment to Development of Acute Medical services within the trust
11. Must show evidence of being proactive and Self motivated
Experience
Essential criteria
12. CCT in General Medicine/ Acute Medicine
13. Recent comprehensive experience in Acute Medicine and Respiratory Medicine.
14. Experience of Audit and its role in Clinical Governance
15. Demonstrate effective leadership and interpersonal skills
16. Commitment to training and teaching of junior medical staff and other health professionals
17. Experience in clinical supervision
Desirable criteria
18. Formal leadership training
19. CCT or HST in Respiratory Medicine
20. Additional Experience of working in dedicated Medical Admissions unit or equivalent
21. Previous experience of leading a team
22. Attendance at ‘’Teaching the teachers’ or similar training course in medical education
Qualifications
Essential criteria
23. MB ChB or equivalent. MRCP (or equivalent)
24. Entry on the Specialist Register for GIM or within 6 months of CCT
25. GMC with licence to practice
Desirable criteria
26. Higher Degree PhD, MD or equivalent
27. Formal leadership qualification
