Job Summary
We are seeking a substantive Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Medicine to join our modern ITU/HDU at Kettering General Hospital, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Group. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high-quality care across a wide and complex case mix, within a supportive and forward-looking team. With excellent facilities, strong links across medical and surgical specialties, and a commitment to innovation, education, and patient-centred care, this role offers both professional growth and the chance to shape the future of a developing service.
Main duties of the job
There is a 10‑weekly rolling job plan associated with this post. ITU and on‑call duties are delivered during the first five weeks with a shift pattern consisting of 12.5‑ and 8‑hour days, and night shifts where DCC is from 8pm to 11pm with on‑call from home thereafter.
For consultants with a subspecialty in Anaesthetics the job plan includes approximately three weeks of an average of six theatre sessions per week, which include various specialities including general surgery, trauma, orthopaedics, ENT, maxillo‑facial surgery, urology, and plastic surgery. The appointee is expected to offer some flexibility in these sessions, although the theatre rota will generally be produced up to four weeks in advance, and it is normal practice to allocate appointees regular lists to allow for the development of team building, specific skill sets relating to areas of interest and ongoing working relationships.
