Ophthalmic Technician

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with people and with an interest in working in an eye care setting.
The role of Ophthalmic Technician is patient centred and involves the use of various diagnostic eye imaging equipment in order to record images, scans, and visual field analysis to allow for virtual review. This role requires excellent people skills and communication skills, and strict attention to detail in order to provide imaging of the highest quality. The role involves both working in a team on the glaucoma/retinal imaging monitoring/assessment unit and working individually in the visual field clinic within the ophthalmology department. Full training will be provided but previous experience of working with people, patients or in an eye care setting would be beneficial.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the job include:
* To undertake ophthalmic technician duties including (but not limited to) : visual acuity assessment /computerised visual field assessment / retinal imaging / measurement of spectacles using the automated focimeter / measurement of Intraocular pressure / instillation of eye drops
* To participate in the virtual glaucoma and medical retinal clinics and the ophthalmology visual field clinic
* To use patient management systems and electronic patient record systems appropriately
* To undertake administrative tasks associated with the role, following departmental guidelines and procedures.
* To contribute to the efficient running of all clinics
* To ensure safe use and maintenance of all equipment
* To demonstrate ophthalmic technician duties to others and to assist in training new staff
* To ensure compliance with policies and procedures of the Trust

Job responsibilities
To undertake ophthalmic technician duties including (but not limited to) :
* Visual acuity assessment
* Computerised visual field assessment
* Retinal imaging using various retinal imaging devices including OPTOS and OCT imaging
* Measurement of spectacles using the automated focimeter
* Measurement of Intraocular pressure using the Reichert Ocular Response Analyser and iCARE
* To participate in the virtual glaucoma, medical retinal and visual field clinics as required.
* To use patient management systems and electronic patient records
* To undertake administrative tasks associated with the role, following departmental guidelines and procedures.
* To contribute to the efficient running of all clinics
* To ensure safe use and maintenance of all equipment
* To commit to further training as required
* To demonstrate ophthalmic technician duties to others and to assist in training new staff when necessary
* To ensure compliance with policies and procedures of the Trust
Person Specification
* Previous experience of dealing with patients/members of the public in a customer care or clinical environment
* 5 GCSE grade A-C or equivalent including maths, English and science
* NVQ level 3 / A levels or equivalent experience
* Care certificate / requirement to undertake and complete within 12 weeks
* Experience working in an eye care setting
* Ophthalmic technician or Photography qualification
* Previous experience within an Ophthalmology Clinic and/or health care setting
