If you’re seeking a senior operational role where your decisions have a real and visible impact on the direction of the business, this is a rare opportunity to join a long-established and highly respected Scottish civil engineering contractor entering an important new phase of growth and development.
With a history spanning more than 60 years, the company has grown steadily from a small family-run business into a trusted delivery partner for civil engineering projects across Ayrshire and Scotland. Their reputation has been built on reliability, long-term relationships, and consistent delivery—not aggressive expansion. Typical projects range from £200k–£300k and include roads, bridges, culverts, safety barriers, and traffic management works.
As the current leadership team plans for succession and the future, they are now looking to appoint a Senior Construction Manager / Operations Manager / General Manager to take ownership of day-to-day operations and help shape the next stage of the company’s development.
This is a key leadership role focused on improving efficiency, consistency, and commercial performance across the business.
In this role, you will:
* Lead overall project delivery, ensuring safety, quality, and programme targets are consistently achieved across multiple live sites
* Work closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams to maintain and strengthen the company’s long-standing reputation
* Drive operational improvement, identifying opportunities to streamline processes and enhance commercial performance
* Support and develop contract managers and site teams, building capability and confidence throughout the organisation
* Represent the business professionally in all client and external stakeholder interactions
The successful candidate will bring:
* A strong background in civil engineering, ideally within highways, local authority, or infrastructure projects
* Practical, hands-on leadership experience in a fast-paced environment where adaptability is essential
* A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering (Degree or HND, or equivalent experience)
* Strong leadership, communication, and commercial awareness skills
This position will particularly suit someone who enjoys variety, responsibility, and making a visible difference—rather than working within layers of corporate structure. You’ll be joining a close-knit, respected team where ideas are valued and where quality and reliability matter more than volume-driven growth.
If you’re interested in leading the operational future of a well-established Scottish civil engineering business, we’d be pleased to hear from you.
