High March School are seeking a school leaver or university student who is interested in pursuing a career in teaching or working with children. The year will be spent assisting both teaching and administrative staff and therefore will be highly informative for someone who is considering teaching as a career.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Set an example to encourage the children to have high expectations of themselves
2. Maintain a lively enthusiasm for the role, help promote high morale and the good name and reputation of the school
3. Be vigilant at all times for the general welfare of the children
Reports to: Head of Upper School, Deputy Heads and the Headmistress
Hours, Salary & Benefits:
Hours: Monday to Friday 7:55am to 5:35pm
Dates: September 2026 to July 2027
Salary: £19,356

Main Responsibilities:
13. Early morning duty, supervising children from 8:00-8:30am.
14. Working with individuals or groups of children, (mainly in Maths and English).
15. Assisting in swimming and games lessons.
16. Attending the termly school trips.
17. Attending residential trips.
18. Administrative tasks, filing, photocopying, telephone, typing, putting up notices.
19. Putting up classroom displays.
20. Some weekends when the school is hosting a special event, e.g. Christmas Fayre, the Art Exhibition or school events such as Sports Day.
21. Attending and helping with Parents’ Evenings.
22. Working as a Classroom Assistant in Key Stage Two.
23. Supervising children waiting for an after-school club.
24. Supervision in the library.
25. Collating absences and giving information to and passing information from the School Office.
26. Greeting visitors and attending to reception when not in lessons.
27. Delivering post to teachers and classrooms.
28. A break or lunch duty most days.
29. Attending school events that take place at the weekend.
30. Limited attendance in the school holidays.
31. Although mainly based at Upper School (Key Stage 2), if needed the applicant must be willing to perform different roles at Junior House (Key Stage 1 and the Foundation Stage) if and when necessary.
Person Specification:
Qualifications and experience required:
32. GCSE English and Mathematics
33. A Levels or equivalent
34. General knowledge of ICT skills, such as Microsoft Office.
35. Good communication skills.
36. Good organisational skills.
37. Ability to be flexible
Other skills required:
38. Ability to take a swimming Life Saving qualification and a proficient swimmer
