This is an opportunity for a chaplain or spiritual care practitioner seeking to advance in delivering spiritual, pastoral, and religious care within a hospital environment. North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT), in collaboration with University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW), has established a new Hospital Group. As part of developing a unified managed chaplaincy service across both Trusts, a fixed-term position is available for a Chaplain until March 2026, with potential for extension.
Under the guidance of the Lead Chaplain, you will be responsible for providing, facilitating, and promoting spiritual, pastoral, and religious care to the hospital community. Based at Southmead Hospital, you will also participate in a Bristol-wide out-of-hours on-call service to deliver emergency spiritual support across the Bristol NHS Group. We seek a qualified and ambitious individual dedicated to providing exemplary spiritual care within a multi-faith SPaRC service, emphasizing teamwork, personal growth, and alignment with Trust values.
Key Responsibilities:
* Respond to the spiritual, pastoral, and religious needs of patients, families, carers, visitors, volunteers, and staff, maintaining accountability to the Lead Chaplain.
* Establish trusting relationships and assess, deliver, monitor, and record person-centered SPaRC care, addressing holistic needs.
* Provide compassionate, effective interventions, including religious rites and ceremonies, respecting individual beliefs and professional standards.
* Participate in a 24/7 emergency on-call service, responding within one hour, including during major incidents.
* Arrange and conduct hospital ceremonies, such as funerals and emergency marriages, liaising with families and external providers.
* Maintain confidentiality, contribute to educational initiatives, and develop collaborative relationships across professional and faith boundaries.
* Support volunteers, hospital staff, and promote awareness of SPaRC services within the Trust.
* Support the upkeep of the Sanctuary area and contribute to strategic and service development, including audits, research, and policy implementation.
* Engage in continuous personal and professional development, including external supervision and appraisals.
