As a key member of the Design Team, the Women’s Footwear Designer will play a pivotal role in the creation and development of our women’s collections, working closely with the Design Director and cross-functional teams.
This role requires a creative and detail-oriented designer who can translate market trends and consumer insights into innovative, brand-right, and commercially viable footwear. The ideal candidate will have strong design skills, a passion for innovation and sustainability, and the ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
This is a hands-on design role that requires collaboration with internal teams, external partners, and manufacturers to bring FitFlop’s women’s collections to life.
The Responsibilities:
1. Design & Development
* Work closely with the Design Director to develop seasonal collections that align with FitFlop’s brand identity, consumer insights, and business strategy.
* Create and present design concepts, sketches, and technical drawings for review and approval.
* Ensure designs incorporate FitFlop’s biomechanics, comfort technology, and sustainability principles while maintaining commercial appeal.
* Research and apply new materials, colour palettes, and trend-driven concepts to enhance the women’s footwear range.
* Support the selection of colours, materials, and trims, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals and commercial objectives.
* Contribute ideas and innovative approaches to elevate the collections.
1. Collaboration & Strategy
* Partner with Merchandising, Product Development, and R&D teams to meet commercial targets, cost efficiencies, and production timelines.
* Work with development teams and factories to bring designs to life, ensuring feasibility, quality, and brand consistency.
* Assist in creating presentation materials and storytelling elements for stakeholders.
* Stay updated on global fashion trends, consumer insights, and design innovations to inform future collections.
2. Agility & Adaptability
* Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing creativity with deadlines and business needs.
* Be receptive to feedback and adapt ideas based on market and consumer insights.
* Support the team collaboratively, contributing creative solutions and problem-solving skills.
The Person:
* Experience in footwear design, preferably within a premium, performance, or lifestyle brand.
* Strong understanding of footwear construction, lasts, midsoles, outsoles, and material technologies.
* Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and 3D design tools.
* Experience with digital prototyping is a plus.
* Strong hand-drawing skills for quick sketching and idea communication.
* Passion for innovation and sustainability, with interest in circular design and responsible materials.
* Collaborative mindset, experienced in working across departments such as Merchandising, Product Development, and Marketing.
* Attention to detail and ability to balance creativity with commercial objectives.
* Global mindset, understanding international market trends and consumer preferences.
* Willingness to travel for factory visits, market research, and development trips.
