The Yard and Logistics Manager is responsible for all aspects of the dispatch yard. This includes all material movements, staging and storage of both finished goods and work in progress within the yards as well as the inbound and outbound transport and logistics of materials. They will manage and lead the yard team, ensuring productivity, safety, and adherence to processes. The role also includes reporting on departmental metrics to drive team efficiency and ensure on-time, in-full (OTD) deliveries. In addition, the Yard and Logistics Manager will work closely with the Manufacturing Manager to ensure alignment on operational priorities and yard requirements. Main duties and responsibilities Direct and control the yard employees and manage the working teams over multiple sites. Supervise, manage, and motivate the Yard team, including Supervisors and Team Leads. Ensure that yard Supervisors and employees carry out their assigned tasks correctly and safely. Check timesheets and ensure compliance with attendance and operational standards. Develop and implement training and development plans for the team, ensuring they are equipped with the skills necessary to perform their roles efficiently and safely. Maintain and develop yard employees’ competencies and assign operatives to tasks they are competent to perform. Ensure resource is planned to meet current and future demand including recruitment when required Planning and Scheduling Ensure that yard activities are planned and managed to meet the priorities set in the Production Priority Sheet. Create longer term plans for optimised use of storage capacity ensuring any constraints are identified and mitigated Process Improvement and Innovation Propose and implement lean methods and innovations to improve yard operations. Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead initiatives to enhance operational efficiency using lean methodologies and best practices. Support MRP/ERP implementation and contribute to the integration of the Yard operations into Strumis. Manage yard expansion efforts, ensuring efficient storage and movement of stock to accommodate site growth while proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks.
