This is a hugely important public service, and our challenge is bigger than ever. DWP's Economic Serious and Organised Crime team is part of DWP’s Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt Directorate, dealing with complex attacks on DWP benefits and grants, often by Organised Crime Groups.
We are looking for individuals with relevant experience to help combat organised criminality against DWP through prosecution and disruption activities.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join our Counter Fraud and Compliance Directorate (CFCD), working with our Economic and Serious Organised Crime (ESOC) team. You will be at the forefront of tackling serious crimes against DWP, which may also involve modern slavery, human trafficking, and identity fraud.
You will collaborate with law enforcement agencies on high-profile operations involving multiple suspects and multi-million-pound criminality.
Your work will be dynamic, with no two days being the same. You will have the authority to make decisions and work alongside various agencies.
What will you be doing as a Criminal Investigator?
* Lead criminal investigations into serious and organised crime against DWP to achieve successful outcomes.
* Collaborate with colleagues, law enforcement agencies, and partners across DWP and government on joint operations.
* Conduct briefings with law enforcement, including senior officers, on operational impacts, press interest, and reports.
* Organise and participate in arrest, search, and seizure procedures following legislation and guidance.
* Perform advanced interviews under caution, adhering to PACE.
* Decide on appropriate legislation, powers, and timelines for investigations.
* Coordinate with prosecution services to develop evidence and prepare submissions for court actions.
* Serve as Disclosure Officer, producing accurate Disclosure Schedules, and handle exhibits as required.
* Engage with legal teams, understand case details, and progress directions from Counsel and courts efficiently.
* Provide evidence in court and manage witnesses and victims through the process.
* Work with DWP colleagues to prevent benefit loss.
