About the Role
Our client is seeking a Day Electrical Engineer to join their facilities team at a prestigious university site. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a high-profile environment, offering career progression and exposure to a wide range of complex electrical systems.
The successful candidate will deliver both Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance services, working closely with General Maintenance Assistants and the wider facilities management team.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Operations
1. Deliver comprehensive electrical repair and maintenance across university buildings, plant, systems, and equipment.
2. Carry out statutory, mandatory, planned preventative, and reactive maintenance activities.
3. Perform fault-finding and diagnostics to maintain system reliability and uptime.
4. Accurately interpret technical drawings, instructions, and specifications.
Safety & Compliance
5. Ensure all work is carried out safely and efficiently, in line with legislation, manufacturer guidance, and company Health & Safety procedures.
6. Work safely in hazardous areas, confined spaces, and on contaminated equipment using appropriate PPE.
7. Prepare plant and equipment for insurance inspections to ensure statutory compliance.
Asset & Project Support
8. Maintain and update asset registers accurately.
9. Assist with minor installation works, including task setting-out, material identification, and sourcing tools and equipment.
10. Conduct pre-installation inspections and assess service requirements for new or upgraded equipment.
11. Carry out site surveys and report defects to the relevant manager.
Team & Contractor Coordination
12. Oversee service contractors when required.
13. Liaise with the Asset Manager regarding plant, equipment, and building fabric failures.
14. Support colleagues by providing guidance and instruction on specific tasks.
15. Assist with the induction and training of new starters, apprentices, and maintenance staff.
Systems & Administration
16. Complete daily administrative duties, ensuring timely and accurate completion of work dockets, tickets, and logbooks.
17. Use CAFM systems, PDAs, BMS, work permit systems, and ordering platforms following training.
Additional Duties
18. Undertake maintenance tasks outside the core electrical discipline when required.
19. Safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, scaffolding, and associated equipment.
20. Provide support during emergencies and participate in out-of-hours work when necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
21. Completed Electrical Apprenticeship or NVQ / City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent).
22. Knowledge and experience of emergency lighting systems and maintenance.
23. 17th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification (willingness to obtain 18th Edition).
24. Basic understanding of Health & Safety regulations in construction and building maintenance environments.
Skills & Attributes
25. Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems in building maintenance environments.
26. High attention to detail with the ability to accurately record maintenance and repair information.
27. Competent IT skills, including handheld and mobile devices for job management.
28. Flexible, proactive, and team-oriented approach to work.
