The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Ecologist to join our Energy Transition & Sustainability (ET&S) team. With shared office spaces in Birmingham, Sheffield, and Manchester, we welcome applications from Senior Ecologists across these areas.
The role
Our Ecologists play an important role within the ET&S team and alongside our clients. As a Senior Ecologist, you will support your Ecology leads on various ecological schemes, take the lead on projects, and mentor junior Ecologists.
The role also includes ecological support for regional and national projects across sectors such as highways, rail, local authorities, central government, aviation, and waste.
Responsibilities include:
1. Producing technically sound deliverables for ecological commissions within a team.
2. Preparing and checking documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
3. Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries.
4. Managing a small, locally based technical team and overseeing their workload.
5. Contributing to bid preparations and business development.
6. Promoting effective health and safety practices within the team.
What you will bring to us:
* Experience and expertise in the ecological field.
* Specialist knowledge in protected species surveys.
* EPS Mitigation licence application experience and holding or working towards a Protected Species Licence (notable species: bats & dormice).
* Experience in invasive species survey and management.
* Knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies.
* Ability to produce technically sound ecological solutions complying with standards and legislation.
* Ability to apply ecological management principles.
* Experience with health, safety, and welfare tasks related to projects.
* Understanding of risk assessment and hazard management.
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent.
