The specialist serves as a key liaison during inspections and audits, playing a vital role in promoting a safe and healthy learning and working environment. Maintains the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of science laboratories across all campuses. This role involves purchasing, delivery, maintenance, and safety oversight of laboratory equipment and supplies. Job Duties: • Conduct periodic laboratory and shop inspections, including all technical and general education labs, to ensure compliance with OSHA standards. Review and maintain inspection reports for all laboratories and shops. • Collaborate with office personnel to ensure ergonomic, fire, and general safety code compliance. • Serve as the college representative during OSHA or System Office Compliance visits. Write, review, and update occupational safety programs for activities across all SCC locations. • Review and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all laboratory/shop chemicals and materials. • Collect, investigate, and report student, employee, and guest accidents to college personnel, KCTCS, and Workers' Compensation as required. • Coordinate hazardous and biological waste collection and disposal in accordance with regulatory guidelines. • Serve on College committees, including but not limited to the Safety Committee, the Emergency Response Team (ERT), and the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). • Serve on the Infectious Disease Advisory Committee (IDAC) to maintain contact with all Health Departments and Hospitals in the SCC service area. Share IDAC information as needed. • Coordinate purchasing of laboratory supplies, models, and equipment for the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Department. • Coordinate delivery and installation of supplies and equipment to appropriate labs across all campuses. • Maintain inventory and ensure proper organization of all laboratory equipment and supplies. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on laboratory equipment. • Ensure all labs are stocked with necessary supplies and their equipment is in working order. Organize and manage storage areas for laboratory materials. • Perform other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two to four years of related work experience or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications: Two or more years of experience in: environmental health and safety within academic, laboratory, or industrial settings; knowledge of OSHA, SDS, CDC, hazardous waste collection and disposal; and lab equipment maintenance and calibration.
