Assistant psychotherapist

Offer description

We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Assistant Psychotherapist to join our team at Oaktree, a specialist residential care provider. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the emotional wellbeing of our children and young adults and assist in delivering therapeutic care across our service.

Main responsibilities:

* Support the therapeutic work with our young people, helping them based on their emotional and developmental needs, and taking into account their individual life experiences.
* Assist in conducting needs, risk, and strengths-based assessments under the guidance of senior therapists and clinicians.
* Help develop therapeutic care plans, clinical formulations, and contribute to reports for the young people in our care.
* Provide direct and indirect support to children and adolescents through a range of therapeutic approaches, suited to their needs and capacity.
* Work alongside residential care staff to help them build strong, attachment-informed relationships with the young people they support.
* Participate in training sessions for residential care staff, promoting understanding of mental health, attachment, and trauma-informed care.
* Be alert to safeguarding concerns and risk factors, always acting in the best interests of the children and young people.
* Contribute to clinical discussions, reflecting on the needs and progress of young people in placement.

Requirements:

* Working towards or holding registration with BACP, HCPC or an equivalent professional body.
* Minimum of 1 year's experience in a relevant therapeutic or mental health setting (experience may include placements or supervised practice as part of training).
* A valid driving licence is essential.

Skills:

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build rapport with young people, staff, and families.
* Ability to assist in the development of care plans tailored to individual needs.
* Strong IT skills for record-keeping and report writing.
* Empathy, patience, and resilience when working with young people who have experienced trauma.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, always keeping the young person at the centre of practice.
* A commitment to learning and developing within a therapeutic role.
