Job Summary
A Band 4 Rotational Pharmacy Technician is a career‑level role within the TRFT that develops broad, hands‑on clinical and technical expertise through rotations across a variety of departments, including Dispensary, Aseptic Services, Electronic Prescribing, Medicines Administration EPMA and Wards. In dispensary services, the role involves dispensing To‑Take‑Out (TTO) and inpatient prescriptions, managing stock control, and handling Controlled Drugs (CDs). Ward‑based duties include carrying out ward stock top‑ups, assessing patients own medications, and supporting the discharge process through TTO prescriptions. Within aseptic services, technicians assist with the preparation of sterile products, chemotherapy treatments, and Central Intravenous Additive Service (CIVAS). Key responsibilities also include performing final accuracy checks on dispensed medicines, providing straightforward patient counselling on the safe use of medicines, and supervising. To work in this role, candidates are required to hold a BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or an equivalent qualification, and must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Responsibilities
* Dispensing and accuracy checking prescriptions across dispensary, ward, aseptic and informatics services.
* Supplying pharmaceutical stock to wards and departments, managing controlled drugs.
* Supporting clinical teams with medicines reconciliation, assessing Patients Own Drugs (PODs) and ward stock top‑ups.
* Preparing sterile products, chemotherapy and Central Intravenous Additive Service (CIVAS) products in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice standards.
* Communicating with patients, counselling them on the safe and appropriate use of medicines and liaising closely with hospital colleagues.
* Participating in weekend / bank holiday / evening duty rotas.
* Undertaking ongoing professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician or be eligible to register.
* NVQ 3 / BTEC in Pharmacy Services or equivalent; or working towards completion.
* Experience of using JAC software.
* Career development: maintain knowledge base and remain up to date with current issues in undertaking continual professional development.
* Understanding of hospital pharmacy (desirable).
Employment Details
Band: 4. Salary: £28,392 to £31,157 per annum, pro rata. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full‑time, Flexible working. Closing date: 13 June 2026.
