Automation Maintenance Engineer

Location: Edinburgh Mail Centre, Edinburgh, EH11 4YY
Salary: £53,195 per annum, plus night shift allowance, 22.5 days annual leave with bank holidays, defined contribution pension scheme. Weekend supplement: Saturday (£53.14 per attendance), Sunday (£106.28 per attendance).
Shift & Work Hours: 40 hours per week, rotating across early, late and night shifts on a 5‑week cycle. Requires voluntary flexibility for 24/7 operations, including occasional overtime.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform maintenance tasks: preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on automation assets.
* Identify the root cause of automation breakdowns and prioritise corrective actions to meet operational processing requirements.
* Monitor equipment performance and improve automation outputs in collaboration with operational stakeholders.
* Provide support to the Engineering Manager, Maintenance Team Leader and Engineering Team Coaches, completing end‑of‑shift reports, fault logging and data entry.
* Run continuous improvement activities and own projects from conception to implementation for machinery in the Hub/ Mail Centre.
* Work independently and collaboratively to achieve common goals.
Qualifications & Skills
* Qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 – or equivalent).
* Experience maintaining automation equipment and adopting a flexible approach.
* Understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
* Strong communication skills for explaining complex issues.
* Full UK driving licence (required for occasional travel to other sites).
