Role Overview
The Procurement & Carbon Compliance Manager will lead the development and implementation of sustainable procurement practices across the organisation, driving financial savings and reducing environmental impact. The role champions sustainability, provides leadership in environmental compliance, and communicates sustainability goals and progress to staff, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities
Management and Leadership
* Foster a culture of sustainable procurement, achieving financial savings and measurable reductions in environmental impact.
* Develop and deliver the organisation's Sustainability Strategy.
Procurement
* Create sustainable procurement policies and toolkits to support staff in sustainable purchasing.
* Guide purchasers on procurement matters ensuring policy compliance and adding organisational value.
* Lead supplier engagement to improve sustainability performance and manage supplier risks.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to embed best procurement practices.
* Lead quotation and tender exercises efficiently.
* Monitor and improve procurement processes for continuous improvement and efficiency.
* Coordinate with purchasing consortiums.
Contract Management
* Work with contract administrators and suppliers to improve contractor performance.
* Report on contract performance and spending with key performance indicators (KPIs).
* Assist contract administrators with contract reviews and variations.
* Maintain accurate contract database and procurement activity pipeline.
Sustainability
* Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and implement the organisation's sustainability goals, focusing on net-zero emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3.
* Engage with departments to implement sustainability action plans.
* Develop systems to monitor and report environmental impact.
* Liaise with budget holders, senior management, trustees, and wider stakeholders to ensure leadership in sustainability.
* Explore innovative ethical carbon offsetting aligned with organisational objectives.
* Lead on relationships with sustainability initiatives.
Other Duties
* Support finance and departments in process efficiencies and budget control.
* Identify training needs and support colleague development through mentoring and coaching.
* Commit to ongoing professional development.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Knowledge
* Relevant degree or significant professional experience in sustainability or environmental management.
* Professional qualifications in supply chain, procurement, or equivalent experience.
* Membership or study towards environmental or procurement professional bodies desirable.
* Solid understanding of environmental sustainability policies and global issues with local application.
* Good knowledge of sustainable procurement principles, governance, and social responsibility frameworks.
Experience
* Proven track record in developing and implementing sustainability and procurement strategies in complex organisations.
* Experience with sustainability education initiatives and achieving measurable cost/environmental savings.
* Knowledge of carbon offsetting programs beneficial.
Skills
* Excellent organisational skills, able to work under pressure and prioritise effectively.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills.
* Persuasive communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
* Ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.
