Overview
Are you an experienced Payroll professional looking for a part-time opportunity in a collaborative and supportive team? Our client is seeking a Payroll Assistant to join their friendly finance department on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has a strong eye for detail when it comes to payroll processing and compliance.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the preparation and processing of the monthly payroll for multiple entities
* Ensure accurate calculation of pay, overtime, bonuses, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP), and deductions
* Maintain payroll records and ensure data integrity within payroll systems
* Reconcile payroll reports and liaise with HR and finance teams to resolve discrepancies
* Support year-end processes including P60s, P11Ds, and PAYE reconciliations
* Manage employee queries related to payroll and provide clear and timely responses
* Ensure all payroll procedures comply with HMRC regulations and internal policies
Requirements
* Previous experience in a payroll processing role (in-house or bureau environment)
* Knowledge of UK payroll legislation including tax codes, NI, pensions, and statutory payments
* Familiarity with auto-enrolment and pension submissions
* Proficient in using payroll software (e.g. Sage Payroll, BrightPay, or similar) and Excel
* Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
