Job Description:

Consultant Psychiatrist for Substance Use
No. 11 Dalkeith

Reference - 214877

NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.

To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, part time (24 hours per week) post based in No11 Dalkeith.

NHS Lothian and Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership wish to appoint a part-time 6PA Consultant Psychiatrist in Substance Use to take lead clinician responsibility for day to day psychiatric and medical assessment and care of patients referred to Midlothian.

This post holder will act as lead clinician for treating substance use in Midlothian and will inform the shape and delivery of forward facing services, focused on building resilience, supporting rehabilitation and enabling recovery. It is a key expectation that patients will be actively recruited and retained into treatment services. Alongside this, more patients will be supported by specialist input whilst appropriately being treated within the Primary Care setting, thereby further increasing the flexibility and responsiveness of the service.

It is the expectation that the Consultant Psychiatrist will offer weekly Outpatient Clinics at No.11 and in identified primary care settings and other venues throughout Midlothian as required, in addition to weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings held at the team base.

Supervision of non-consultant grade medical staff, trainees or career grade doctors, in line with recently amended guidelines, is a fundamental requirement of the job plan.

The post holder must already hold Approved Medical Practitioner status under Section 22 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003 or be in a position to undergo relevant appropriate training to become an AMP immediately upon taking up post.

There is no on-call commitment associated with this post.
