It is an exciting time to be at the University of Hull as we build ourOne Teamculture, drive service improvement and support our students and staff to achieve their personal goals and aspirations. The University of Hull has adopted a new professional service delivery model following extensive consultation with stakeholders from across the University and an exciting opportunity is now available within Academic Services for a Disability Inclusion Adviser to deliver support to students who require intervention or support to make the most of every learning opportunity.

Working as part of our Disability Inclusion team, the primary focus of this role will be the provision of specialist advice and guidance and case-management for students who are experiencing challenges which have the potential to impact on their success or wellbeing. We are seeking a highly motivated, creative and compassionate individual with significant demonstrable experience of advising and advocating for adults or young adults in an educational setting.

The post holder will be part of our first-response duty team. They will also maintain a case-load of students as well as providing single session or short-term interventions to address a range of presenting needs, which may include medical conditions, disability, pregnancy, estrangement, financial hardship and neurodivergent conditions. The post holder will have the ability to work effectively in an advisory role with a diverse range of students, in particular those who have significant, co-occurring and/or complex needs and those from underrepresented groups.

A sound understanding of the Equality Act and the factors which impact student success and wellbeing alongside the ability to signpost towards and deliver interventions for a range of wellbeing needs to a diverse range of students is critical. The post holder must be able to assess needs and plan, organise, implement and evaluate interventions with clear goals and outcomes which meet the holistic needs of the student.

We are seeking individuals with a professional qualification or evidence of relevant training and experience in the field of disability, specific learning differences and/or neurodivergence. Excellent communication skills, a high level of motivation and adaptability, a compassionate and proactive approach and a willingness to work collaboratively with a range of partners is essential to this post.
