Westbrook Medical Centre is looking to recruit a part-time receptionist / administrator for a minimum of 22 hours per week. Normal working hours will be on a set rota but the successful candidate will need to be flexible to cover sickness and holidays when needed.
The ideal candidate will enjoy the challenge of working in a very busy GP practice and must have a kind, positive, friendly manner when attending to patients via all contact methods and when interacting with colleagues.
You will be given appropriate training in all aspects of the job role, which includes (but is not limited to) front of house reception, telephones, prescriptions, scanning, online electronic appointment platform and numerous administration tasks.
You will be part of a very friendly and supportive team.
Main duties of the job
Candidates should be educated to GCSE level or equivalent and it is desirable to have General Practice experience. Previous experience of working with the general public and / or customer service is essential.
Duties include - general medical reception duties such as greeting patients, dealing with their requests and queries, answering phone calls, booking appointments, using the clinical computer system (SystmOne), scanning, dealing with queries and tasks from the clinicians, giving administrative support to the clinical and management teams, monitoring and responding to emails on the generic practice account, liaising with external parties such as secondary care, directing patients to appropriate services, generating new / repeat prescriptions. This list is not exhaustive and there may be other duties that would be required by the practice.
Full training and support will be provided.

Westbrook Medical Centre has a patient list size of approximately 10,700. We have 4 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, 1 ANP, 3 practice nurses, 1 Physician Associate, 1 Health Care Assistant, 1 Practice Manager, 1 Office Manager, 2 departmental leads, a large team of experienced administrative staff and other support services including pharmacists, physiotherapists, social prescriber, health coach, paramedics and dietician.
Our clinical staff are assisted by a friendly and knowledgeable admin and reception team. All the staff are highly supportive and the surgery is an enjoyable environment to work in.
Job responsibilities
The purpose of the role is to: Offer general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone. Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team where practical. Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies.
Qualifications
* Educated to GSCE level or equivalent including mathematics and English grade A-C
* Experience in working in Primary Care
* Experience of SystmOne
