Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery with a special interest in Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstruction to join The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. This substantive post is to join a team of six Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. Please note that this role will support Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust Head and Neck Oncology in collaboration with New Cross Hospital.

Main duties of the job
* Provide and develop with clinical colleagues, an integrated Head and Neck service for the Trust. This may involve all disciplines including primary and tertiary care.
* Participate in the structural development of the Head and Neck service, treatment protocols and guidelines and extend knowledge in the management of Head and Neck conditions.
* Provide a consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust and Primary Care.
* Work with other members of the Maxillofacial team to provide a comprehensive general surgical service to the Trust, Primary Care Trusts and General Practitioners.
* Participate in the Maxillofacial on-call rota with consultant colleagues to ensure that appropriate emergency services are provided out-of-normal working hours.
* Take responsibility for the professional supervision and development of trainee doctors within the specialty. This will include the appraisal of SHOs and SpRs.
* Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities.
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.
* In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.

Job Description
Job responsibilities: The Oral and Maxillofacial Consultants and their team provide comprehensive services across three NHS Trusts: New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley, and Manor Hospital in Walsall. All major inpatient work is carried out at New Cross Hospital; the other units handle outpatient and day-case procedures. This role also supports Shrewsbury and Telford Head and Neck Oncology in collaboration with New Cross Hospital. The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust provides Head and Neck cancer services, including major reconstruction with free flaps, under a specialised MDT and joint oncology clinics, supported by Clinical Nurse Specialists, Macmillan Cancer Support, Speech & Language Therapists, Dieticians, Palliative and Hospice care, and a Maxillofacial Prosthetics Team.
The management of skin malignancy is a growing part of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, with current day-stay procedures within the department and a dedicated day care unit.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC/ GDC
* MDDB /BDS or equivalent
* FRCS or equivalent
* On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT or CESR (CP) from the date of interview
Experience
* Wide experience in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
* Desirable: Experience in H&N Oncology and Reconstruction
Research and Audit
* Essential: Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit
* Desirable: Relevant research published in peer-reviewed journals
