We have an exciting new apprenticeship here at Gleeson for those who want to kick start their career in site management. Our program is tailored for individuals seeking the next step in their career after some experience working on sites, such as labouring, qualified trades apprentices, FLTs, etc.
Trainee Assistant Site Manager Apprenticeship
You will be supported and mentored by the Assistant Site Manager on site to guide you and assist in various aspects of the role. As a Trainee ASM Apprentice, you will support the site teams in the progression, quality, and innovation of Gleeson Homes. This involves coordinating all information from initial conception to full completion, ensuring properties are finished within the site programme and budget, while adhering to safe construction practices, NHBC standards, and building regulations.
Upon completing this apprenticeship, you will have gained an NVQ Level 4 in Construction Site Supervision and be on your way to a career in Site Management.
Main Responsibilities
Working collaboratively with the Assistant Site Manager, responsibilities will include:
1. Understanding and implementing the company's health and safety policy among all staff under your control.
2. Ensuring health and safety requirements are fully and correctly applied, in accordance with risk assessments and method statements.
3. Pre-planning operations with the Build Manager and Site Manager, considering hazards and problems.
4. Monitoring and updating the health and safety plan.
5. Establishing adequate welfare facilities from start to finish of the contract.
6. Managing site staff and subcontractors, liaising with head office and local authorities.
7. Promoting a safety, progress, quality, and innovation-focused culture.
8. Implementing recommendations from the Regional Health and Safety Advisor's reports.
9. Completing statutory inspections on scaffolding, excavations, lifting appliances, and accidents.
10. Setting a personal example by adhering to health and safety procedures and site rules.
11. Providing regular feedback and activity reports.
12. Maintaining first aid supplies and ensuring trained personnel are available on site.
13. Recording and reporting accidents, diseases, and dangerous occurrences as per procedures and legal requirements.
14. Coordinating all site activities safely, aligned with construction programmes and budgets.
15. Recording and measuring variations in subcontractor works.
16. Participating in training as required.
17. Maintaining all administrative procedures of the company.
Working Hours
* 39 hours per week
* Monday to Thursday: 8am to 5pm
* Friday: 8am to 4pm
* Attendance at a local college for day release or as specified to obtain L4 Site Supervisor qualification
The Ideal Candidate
* 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent, including English and Maths
* Experience on a construction site is preferred but not essential
* Enjoys outdoor working
* Physically capable
* Willing to travel to sites
* Own transport (desirable)
