Offer description

NHS Fife is seeking a motivated and skilled Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Cellular Pathology team. Applications will also be welcomed from HCPC registered Trainee Biomedical Scientists who are working towards or willing to work towards the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology. Trainees will follow an in house training programme, whilst performing technical diagnostic work, to complete the Specialist portfolio within 2/3 years. Trainees will be paid on band 5 and move to band 6 on completion of the portfolio.

You will play a key role in the delivery of a high-quality diagnostic service, contributing to the processing and analysis of histological specimens. Working within a supportive and collaborative environment, you’ll be encouraged to develop your skills and contribute to service improvements. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of specialist diagnostic techniques including specimen dissection, embedding, microtomy, immunohistochemisty and special stains. You will also be expected to contribute to quality assurance processes, UKAS compliance, supporting training/supervision of staff and trainees; have excellent communication, organisational skills and a commitment to continuous professional development and high standards of patient care.

To find out more, please contact Gillian Leitch (Email: Gillian.leitch2@nhs.scot or Telephone: 01592 643355 Ext. 29123) for an informal discussion.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here .

It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.

We offer flexible working and family-friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
