Job title: Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer

What you’ll be doing:
1. Deputising for the PNED Build Assurance Manager as required.
2. Supporting or leading Nuclear Safety Engineering activities for the Astute and Dreadnought programmes, including resolution of emergent issues during the build and commissioning of the Naval Reactor Plant using appropriate Safety Engineering techniques.
3. Acting as the Intelligent Customer for documentation, advice, and services concerning the Naval Reactor Plant and safety case provided to the company.
4. Developing sound technical solutions to issues during construction and commissioning of the Naval Reactor Plant.
5. Authoring inputs to the Office of the Chief Engineer, advising on the compliance of the “as built” Naval Reactor Plant against design, build, and commissioning requirements.
6. Carrying out nuclear safety assessments of the impact of changes and deviations from the Naval Reactor Plant design intent.
7. Liaising with internal and external customers to ensure their requirements are supported and incorporated appropriately.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
* Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in Engineering or Physical Science.
* Understanding of the design, build, commissioning, and operation of Reactor Plant systems.
* Demonstrable competence in technical report writing.
Desirable:
* Experience in design and build of systems, with understanding of safety and quality roles.
* Ability to lead engineering investigations, including Root Cause Analysis.
* Constructively challenging and influencing others with clear reasoning.

This role offers in-depth knowledge of Naval Reactor Plants for the Astute and Dreadnought classes, involvement in a broad engineering lifecycle, and support to wider PNED teams.

Available across all Submarines roles, subject to eligibility.
