Main Function of the role:
We are looking to recruit a senior associate within a high performing team whose mandate is twofold
1) to invest in private equity secondary transactions with a view to growing the HSOF fund franchise
2) to create liquidity optionality within the private equity portfolio to ensure the timely return of capital to investors and maintain our top quartile ranking in terms of DPI
Key task and responsibilities:
Buyside responsibilities:
* Maintaining Federated Hermes secondaries team visibility in the market
* Origination of opportunities, with a focus on secondaries comprising LP secondaries, single asset and multi asset GP leds (continuation vehicles)
* Contribute to the analysis of investments including financial modelling, due diligence and preparation of Investment Committee papers
* Present to the Investment Committee
* Contribute to the investment execution process including rigorously ensuring that all investment processes are followed
* Contribute to portfolio management (oversight of and reporting on investments)
* Support the development of key relationships with GPs,LPs and advisors
* Sellside responsibilities:
* Assist in the monitoring of portfolios with a view to determining the optimum point at which to seek liquidity
* Contribute to all aspects of sellside processes including process design, financial modelling, assisting buyers with due diligence requests, management of datarooms as well as process and bidder management
* Liaise with all internal stakeholders including but not limited to legal, tax, finance and operations
* Support in preparation of materials for discussion with existing LPs
* Assist in ensuring appropriate conflict management measures are in place
* Platform-wide responsibilities:
* Ensure adherence to investment operations processes
* Ensure utilisation of technology, such as Salesforce and other systems where applicable, to assist and progress investment process and decision making
* Support the systematisation of our investment activity through metrics and data
* Support in the strategic development of the secondaries initiative
Minimum knowledge & experience required:
* A minimum of 3-5 years experience in a Secondaries investment role with a focus on GP led transactions
* Initial experience in Investment Banking or Secondaries advisory firm
* Demonstrable track record of completing GP led transactions within the secondaries market
* Strong communication skills
* Team orientation with ability to foster collaboration within and across teams
Experience Required:
* Contributing to the review of a number of investment opportunities – whether passed or invested
* Contributing to the sale of portfolio or individual investments within the Hermes GPE portfolio (typically 1-3 annually)
* The Secondaries team typically manages 1-3 sellside transactions per annum including whole fund sales, strip sales or individual investment sales
Candidate Profile:
* A strong knowledge and understanding of investment philosophy and processes
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build deep relationships with the wider secondary market as well as internal stakeholders including finance, legal, tax and operations
* Excellent analytical skills with a data-driven mindset
* Robust financial analysis
* Sound communication skills (written and oral) with the confidence to deal with a variety of internal & external stakeholders
* Self-starter/entrepreneurial mindset looking to take responsibility, particularly critical for a team in the early stages of its development
* Drive, determination and goal orientation
* Team-oriented with a demonstrated commitment to shared success over personal accomplishment
* Excellent organisation skills and ability to manage priorities and meet timelines
