Why this job matters
The key purpose of the compliance lead is to manage activities related to key field engineering accountabilities within the Network Services Field Engineering team. The role supports geographical patches to deliver Health & Safety priorities, including safety checks/sign off for engineers, and supports legal compliance and audit activities to achieve ISO accreditations. The role is accountable for environmental and waste targets, ensuring site waste activity and environmental checks are completed.
This role is based at BT Glasgow's office and involves travel across the Scotland region. A business vehicle will be provided.
What you’ll be doing
The compliance lead has responsibilities covering a specific geography (region or part of a region):
Health & Safety regional lead:
* Carry out and renew specialist safety checks for regional engineering teams.
* Complete corrective actions from H&S site audits.
* Support incidents, near misses, hazard reports, and share best practices.
* Report at a regional level on H&S activities and statistics.
ISO Accreditation/Audit support:
* Support site audits for ISO 14001/27001/45001, including site visits and audit prep.
* Coordinate resources and third-party contractors for audits.
* Assist in resolving remedial and corrective actions from audits.
Site Environment lead/Environmental advisor:
* Complete environmental checks at sites, either directly or by arranging onsite activities.
* Address issues identified during environmental checks.
* Submit work orders for corrective actions.
Facilities & building fabric SPOC:
* Escalate facilities issues and track resolution.
* Manage waste activities and report progress and compliance.
* Implement best practices in waste management.
Engineering Operational Support:
* Provide analysis, reporting, and action plans for regional delivery.
* Support daily operational needs of engineering teams.
Skills Required for the Role
* Solution-focused and self-driven.
* Strong communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
* Ability to influence decision-making and process improvements.
Experience Required for the Role
* Experience in engineering environments and managing health, safety, and environmental controls.
* Technical skills in Excel, PowerPoint, data analysis, and visualization.
* Analytical and reporting skills for regional presentations.
