Role Summary
As Management Accountant, you will play a key role within the Management Accounting team, acting as a trusted finance business partner to assigned services. Reporting to the Management Accountancy Team Leader, you will provide high‑quality financial analysis, advice and reporting to support effective budget management, service improvement and change initiatives.
Responsibilities
* Support services with budget setting, forecasting and monitoring.
* Investigate and explain variances, ensuring the achievement of approved savings.
* Contribute to business cases, performance reporting, medium‑ and long‑term financial planning, and the preparation of service final accounts.
* Complete statutory and other financial returns and support the production of the annual accounts in collaboration with corporate finance colleagues.
* Provide direction and support to a small team and engage regularly with senior managers, auditors and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
* Professionally qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA) with proven experience in a similar management accounting or financial environment.
* Strong understanding of accounting standards, legislative requirements and financial governance.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to financial and non‑financial stakeholders.
* Strong analytical capability, high attention to detail and advanced spreadsheet skills required.
* Experience working with financial ledger systems.
* Well‑organised, adaptable and comfortable working to tight deadlines with competing priorities.
* Demonstrated leadership capability, initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement.
* Experience within a public sector or local authority environment.
