We’re hiring a Project Controls Assistant to join our team in Derby, supporting cost control, financial reporting, and data analysis across a variety of exciting projects. This role is a great opportunity for someone with a background as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, junior project controls professional, or finance assistant, as the skills are highly transferable and you’ll gain exposure to both project controls and quantity surveying.
This position is ideal for someone early in their career who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, and supporting cross-functional teams. Whether you have experience in project controls, finance, or quantity surveying, this is your chance to develop further within the civil engineering and infrastructure industry.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Assisting in monitoring and analysing project costs, budgets, and forecasts
* Supporting the preparation of cost reports, dashboards, and financial summaries
* Reviewing data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities
* Helping to produce variance reports and insights for internal stakeholders
* Using tools like Microsoft Excel and Power BI to manage and present cost data
* Collaborating with engineers, project managers, and commercial teams
What We’re Looking For
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Power BI or similar tools is a plus)
* Strong analytical skills and a passion for working with data
* Clear written and verbal communication
* A team player who can also work independently
* Enthusiasm to grow within a commercial or cost management environment
* Experience working in a similar or related role within civil engineering, construction, or architectural environments where you were exposed to construction projects in some way.
Ideal for Candidates Who Are
* On an apprenticeship or graduate pathway (e.g. quantity surveying, finance, engineering, or analytics)
* Working towards a relevant qualification (e.g. RICS, ECITB Level 6, or similar)
* Looking to gain hands-on experience in cost and commercial management on live projects
