About this Parking and Transport Officer role
In this role you’ll tackle a variety of tasks. You’ll enforce parking regulations, educate the public to reduce illegal parking across the district, respond to concerns from the community, and regularly check our car parks to ensure they’re up to standard for residents. It’s about keeping things running smoothly and making a real difference for everyone in the area.
Responsibilities
* Carry out patrols to identify illegal parking and enforce parking regulations by issuing Penalty Charge Notices.
* Cover large distances on foot.
* Engage with local residents, answer questions in person, and stay connected through the dedicated communication system to keep people informed and supported.
* Help people using our car parks by carrying out regular checks and reporting any necessary repairs or equipment issues.
* Carry out basic maintenance tasks on equipment to ensure car parks run smoothly.
Working pattern
37 hours per week, averaged over a 3-week shift pattern. Shifts include 9-hour day shifts with some weekends. Rest days are scheduled during the week on weekends rostered to work. Early shift: 07:45–16:45. Evening shift: 11:45–20:45. Voluntary very early or later evening shifts may be available to maximise enforcement during busy seasonal periods.
About you
This is a role that includes full training around the technical aspects to support learning and development.
Requirements
* Knowledge: Awareness of parking restrictions and knowledge of key legislation (Traffic Management Act) is highly desirable.
* Skills: Ability to communicate tactfully with the public, handle difficult situations, work as part of a team or independently, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
* Experience: Experience of working with members of the public and using ICT to capture, record and monitor actions.
* Other: The successful applicant will be required to undertake a standard DBS check as part of pre-employment clearances.
