Associate Director - Food and Drink, Japan

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Associate Director – Food and Drink to help establish and build a talented analyst team in Japan, building a new team from scratch, and will also work closely with commercial stakeholders and clients to ensure that we continue to deliver highly insightful and relevant reports and content. The role is based at our Tokyo office and reports in to the Head of Consumer Reports, Japan.
What You Will Be Doing
1. Content publishing
Mintel’s Syndicated Reports are covering a variety of Japanese consumer markets identifying the key issues facing global and domestic trends, manufacturers, suppliers and retailers
1. Responsible for overseeing whole process of report publishing
2. Define the report scope, upon trade interview results
3. Design and execute consumer quantitative research together with Research team
4. Gather primary and secondary data related to global trend both from open sources & Mintel internal assets
5. Analyze all information, develop inferences, and generate insights with solid business implications
6. Construct and write the contents in Japanese
7. Work with Digital Publishing team for final publication preparation (copyedit, design, translation etc.)
8. Responsible to manage 2-4 analysts in the team, who execute the above specified operations
9. This role involves networking with Mintel’s global category analysts to stay updated about the latest information
2. Team Management
10. Oversee the category team’s schedule, ensuring that Reports are produced in a timely manner and keep good communications with different teams and stakeholders
11. Provide editorial support to improve the quality of the content, client and marketing work produced by junior members of the team when needed
12. Train and coach the members to develop their functional capability as well as people skills
13. Proactively engage in projects/discussions that impact the long term, work closely with Head of Consumer Reports, Japan on strategic development of Mintel content, contribute ideas that will improve the way we work
3. Client Support
As a category specialist:
14. Handle client service requests related to the contents
15. Support commercial team to proactively share Mintel’s insights with clients & prospects
16. Promote Mintel’s brand in the marketplace by supporting marketing and PR activities, i.e. keynote speech in tradeshow/conference events
Who We Are Looking For
17. Bachelor’s degree
18. Minimum five years working experience in any of below functions
19. consumer research, marketing intelligence
20. marketing, strategic planning
21. communication, promotion planning
22. Experience of people management / coaching
23. Strong motivation for contents writing in the subject area
24. Competent with quantitative consumer data analysis
25. Constructive & logical thinker
26. High level of attention to detail
27. Self-starter who can work independently
28. Great interpersonal skills with open & global mindset
29. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously & to work under pressure and meet deadlines
30. Excellent Japanese writing and speaking
31. Business level of English
32. With specialized knowledge & understanding in Food and Drink
