The company. Established in 1984, Ashfield Extrusion is a single-site UK manufacturer of aluminium impact extrusions. We supply a wide range of industries including packaging, medical, automotive and Military. The role of the NPD department is critical to the continual growth and success of the business going forward. Typically, we develop the product with the customer and collaborate in the design process from concept and initial samples through to production. We then continue to supply for the lifetime of the product. The quality of our products and service is excellent – this comes from our culture and the quality and ability of our people. The job. We are looking for a time served engineer from a hands-on manufacturing background. This is a rewarding and varied position that encompasses the entire production process. From initial customer consultation, through to product/tooling design, process development, and seeing new and innovative products through to a full production handover. This position will suit an enthusiastic, well-rounded engineer that can accurately and professionally manage several projects. It is also essential that you can confidently get involved on the shop floor, to assist with any technical or process issues. The main responsibilities are as follows: * Project management. Implement, control and report on various NPD projects * Process/procedure development. Develop successful manufacturing processes * Design. Complete product and tooling/equipment design to a high standard using CAD * Procurement. Assist with the procurement of new tooling, spares and equipment * Estimating. Generate accurate estimates of manufacturing routes and associated costs. * Communication. Effectively communicate with directors, other stand members and customers in a professional and considered manner * Quality. Ensure all work is carried out in line with the company’s quality policy. * Health and safety. Ensure all activities are carried out safely, and in accordance with the company’s health and safety policy. The person. * Experienced mechanical engineer from an apprentice background is desirable. * Good design and drawing skill, preferably using SolidWorks. * Attention to detail and commitment to following procedures * Problem solver with a “get it done” attitude. * Confident communicator with colleagues, suppliers and customers. Our manufacturing process is uncommon, so we don’t expect someone to come in and know everything about impact extrusion. If you have a good general engineering background and can meet the required attributes, we will provide all the training required for a successful future within the company. The benefits. Salary: From £40,000 depending on experience Pension: 5% matched by your own contribution of 5% Life insurance: 2x salary Sick pay: Full pay for up to 13 weeks in any period of 12 months.
