Specialist Nurse - Sexual Health Intervention and Prevention role at NHS
An exciting opportunity for a motivated Registered Band 6 Specialist Nurse to join the Sexual Health Intervention and Prevention (SHIP) Team. The role requires flexibility, enthusiasm and a commitment to high standards of patient care within the service.
Responsibilities
* Provide autonomous nursing care to meet the sexual health and contraceptive needs of the patient population, including assessment, investigation, diagnosis and treatment.
* Work within the SHIP team, supporting referrals, audits, and safeguarding cases; serve as a point of advice for the Sexual Health and HIV services.
* Lead on the partner notification pathway and provide clinical leadership to the results team.
* Lead the results pathway for Sexual Health and HIV services, liaising with the MDT, investigating errors and feeding back to staff.
* Support the Senior Charge Nurse and Nurse Practitioners in implementing a strategic development plan for nursing and nurse-led services.
* Contribute to training, procedures and processes for partner notification, contact tracing and results management within Sexual Health and HIV services.
* Be responsible for leading on partner notification for the department and participate in MDT meetings to ensure an effective results pathway between laboratory, system and clinic.
* Escalate result queries/issues and participate in root cause analysis for errors, escalating to relevant teams as needed.
* Communicate with the Senior Service Manager and Service Delivery Manager about results processes/pathways to ensure clarity and effective changes as required.
* Monitor competencies, update the Results Administrator competency book and SOP as appropriate, and ensure clinician understanding of the results pathway.
* Review clinician test requests to ensure tests are requested correctly and provide teaching to staff as needed.
* Contribute to procedures for health promotion, risk management, behavioural interventions and focused psychological support for patients attending Sexual Health and HIV Services.
* Support senior nurses in exploring current practice, identifying development areas, and contributing to service changes as required.
Person Specification
Essential
* Registered Nurse (Level 1) with active NMC pin at point of starting
* Recognised Sexual Health Course
* Recognised Contraception Course
* Mentorship/Supervisor/Assessor (SSSA) Course
* 1st degree in appropriate health and social science subject or willingness to complete
* Cervical Cytology course
Desirable
* Advanced physical assessment qualification
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience of working within an Integrated Sexual Health setting as a registered nurse
* Excellent communication skills; ability to relate and communicate with patients and staff at all levels and from different professions
* Team building and working skills - able to lead a team to achieve results
